| FINDING OUR IDENTITY, by Gail Gupton |
| Each of us has in the past, or will
in the future, stare up at the stars and wonder where we came from. History books are full
of records of people searching for their "roots". Who are we anyway? Because the answer has been hidden through generations of time, people have failed to recognize it. Doctrine has conditioned our minds into believing someone else's concept of the beginning of existence and of Life itself. The Biblical scholars want us to believe we came from dust. The scientific community would like us to believe we evolved from apes. Some paranormals should have us believe we came from aliens. In ancient times, Buddha revealed the Truth. In more modern times, Jesus revealed the Truth. Yet, somehow, we tend to believe the Truth was for only a few "chosen" ones. No. It is here right now, right where we are - for us. Enlightened people throughout the ages have attempted to awaken others to the Truth through poetry, music, art, and literature only to have it grasped by a few, then obscurred and forgotten in the next generation. As each new child makes an appearance in this "world", God is appearing as a new form. Each form of life is complete and rich with fulfillment because God IS completion and fulfillment. Does not a seed have within itself all the spiritual ingredients to fulfill its purpose? Does not a seed draw unto itself all that is necessary from its source to bring itself into fruition? At our birth, we were given a name. From that time on we have thought our name was our identity. We have thought our "family" was our identity or our "looks" was our identity. We even believe our experiences make up who we are. We will never know our true identity from history books or family albums. We will never be taught our identity or roots in a classroom. Our real inheritance is not from mother, father, grandparent, ancestors. Our inheritance, as the SON, is everything the FATHER is because we are one with God. The Christian prayer is that of "Our Father . . . " This is our true identity. In meditation it will be revealed to you and your enlightenment to this Truth will present your "real" Self. Meditation reveals a presence within us that we soon discover as "I". However, the "I" is not who we think we are. This "I" is what beats the heart, breathes our breath, walks in our footsteps. This "I" is the substance of our form, the color in our eyes, the essence of our life. This "I" is the Oneness of Father and Son. You may call it "The Christ". Others may call it "The Buddha", Some may call it "Krishna". But it is still the same. It is God. Because the world is full of human entertainment and making a living, we believe time does not allow one to meditate on spiritual things. Human thoughts and clouded thinking prevent one from ever obtaining the meditative state needed for spiritual revelation. Surrender all thoughts. Surrender all concepts. Surrender all ideas. The mind must be stilled, and in that "still small voice", the Truth is heard. Here you will find your true identity as BEING. God is BEING . . . . your SELF. . . . spiritual perfection made manifest. In seeing others, hearing others, reading about others, one can simply smile at the thought of who they really are, yet others know it not. We can know it for them and about them as we go about our daily activities. We are all one. We are all one with God, not separate, and certainly not having an identity any different from those around us, near and far. Our "roots" go much farther than a geneology table. Our heritage is spiritual. Our being is spiritual. Our source is Spirit. Our name is "I AM . . ."
