What Is It That We Know?, by Gail Gupton |
It is in the knowing. To know oneself as a spiritual being, not subject to the ways of the world, is to become truly blessed. This is what we are all seeking. It is in the practicing. To constantly keep thought attuned to spiritual things and above the materiality of the world is to open one's consciousness to commune with God. To feel God's presence requires giving up our thoughts about anything in this world - to give up praying for something, about something. Only by getting outside of the human realm can we ever hope to contact God. The world is busy. The world will never have peace, will never have health, will never have happiness as long as the people in the world believe they have power or that God has power OVER something else. There is no "something else" for God to have power over. The world is too busy worrying, blaming, plotting, entertaining, destroying, fixing, educating, playing - to take the time to know God. Think of how well you know your neighbor. Think of how well you know your town. Yes, you'll say you know your neighbor and sure, you know something about your town - but only in the degree that you have EXPERIENCED it. I would have to eat, play, go to work with, sleep with, talk to, live with, and become my neighbor in order to truly know him. I would have had to travel every street, eat in every restaurant, go into every building, research the history of, attend every social, political, and business function, identify every tree and flower and landmark and much more to ever say I really knew my town - and even then, I wouldn't know every aspect of it. Given this, do we think "knowing God" is even in reach? Only by having the EXPERIENCE of God's presence can one ever say "I know God" "Ye shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free" (Jesus). Ye shall "know" the Truth - EXPERIENCE the Truth - then and only then can we become free. . . free from the limitations we place upon ourselves, free from the bonds placed upon us by others. And now, you ask, "How can I experience this Truth?" Start by turning within to the source of your being and become CONSCIOUSLY aware of the spiritual presence that lives your life. Practice CONSCIOUSLY the presence of God in all you do, all you see, all you say. As you make this practice a daily routine, the realization of Truth will be revealed unto you. All is well. |
