| IN LOOKING FOR A TEACHER, by Gail Gupton |
| That which you seek is already
within you. You need only permission to identify it and to release its omnipotence. There have been many great teachers of Truth throughout the ages. The most familiar to the Western world is Jesus. However, I am sure Jesus considered himself a student, giving the "teacher" title to God within himself. After all, one must have been taught by "something" or "someone" greater than himself to gain the "teacher" status. Likewise, the "Enlightened One" known as Buddha, and Mohammed, the Prophet, were also taught by God, else they would not be revered. All those who have become inspirational leaders, authors, ministers, founders - have been taught of God. They discovered the Truth of who they are and their relationship to God (The Father) as One. This is the common thread in all great doctrines. And, that there is only one God (even though some ignorantly believe an opposite to God exists). The majority of persons cannot fathom having omniscience. "Certainly someone else can lead the way", one might speculate. Persons of all faiths have put upon one of higher consciousness the title of leader, and then have come to worship the leader. One does have omniscience, however, when one realizes "I and my Father are One". This statement, emphasized by Jesus, and proclaimed by prophets as the Truth of one's being is also true for you. Your realization of it breaks the bonds of earthly limitations. People today consider themselves "students" of some path or religion. People today are following the follower, never seeming to graduate to "teacher" position themselves. If one gained the knowledge one was seeking from the church or the organization one associated himself with, one would be able to go out into the world alone. Churches and religious organizations need a flock to be sustained. But once enlightenment occurs, one no longer needs to join with people, as that one becomes One and fulfillment is no longer opaque. Others are drawn unto you. If the Bible were not in existence, people would still discover God. If the Bible were not in existence, people would still discover Truth. The Bible, with all its inspiration, can be confirmation that the Truth spoken of in ancient times is true for today. The "Word" is not the ink upon the page, but rather the validation of the overwhelming acknowledgement of a Presence which guards, guides, and governs. Searching books and searching the Internet for someone to follow - someone to adhere to - ultimately leads back to oneself, where all the understanding lies. Therein is the teacher. We then become students of the One. We become students to our Self. We become our own teacher. Student and teacher are One.
Looking
to another to teach oneself Truth or to lead oneself into a new spiritual awareness only
raises the question, "Who taught the teacher?" Would it not be wise simply to go
to the Source of understanding? All is well. |
